43oz Redesigns Apriori Wine Cans
The Apriori Wine cans project explores a fundamental contradiction within the contemporary beverage market. While cans have become a widely accepted format for cocktails, sparkling wines, and more accessible wine-based drinks, they remain rarely associated with classic still wine. This perception creates a gap between format and expectation — one that the project set out to address directly.
Rather than adapting the product to fit the format’s existing connotations, the approach was to elevate the format itself. The key objective was to clearly communicate that the wine inside the can is identical to what the brand offers in its bottled range. This required a visual language capable of bridging two worlds: the established culture of wine and the modern, portable nature of canned packaging.
The central element of the design is the wine glass — a symbol deeply embedded in the rituals and traditions of wine consumption. Within its silhouette, a vineyard landscape unfolds, referencing the classical visual codes of wine labeling and the idea of terroir. This layering of meaning allows the design to speak simultaneously about origin, quality, and authenticity, while remaining immediately accessible.
The contrast between this traditional imagery and the contemporary format creates a deliberate tension. It invites the viewer to reconsider assumptions about what a can represents, shifting the perception from convenience-driven product to a considered extension of classic wine culture.
To further reinforce this idea, the glass element is executed with an embossed texture, adding a tactile quality to the packaging. This physical detail transforms the act of holding the product into part of the experience, creating a subtle but effective connection between visual identity and sensory perception.
Ultimately, the project positions Apriori Wine cans not as an alternative to bottled wine, but as its continuation in a different form — where design plays a critical role in aligning expectation, perception, and experience.
