The BioMar 2024 Sustainability Report presents a comprehensive overview of the company’s ongoing commitment to transforming aquaculture through sustainable practices, innovative feed solutions, and social responsibility. This year’s report underscores BioMar’s belief that better nutrition leads to a better future—for the oceans, for people, and for the planet.
Central to the report is the significant progress made in reducing the environmental impact of aquaculture feed. BioMar achieved a 14.4% reduction in its total feed carbon footprint compared to its 2020 baseline, including a 20.6% drop in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 23.6% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from 2021 levels. The company also recorded a historically low Forage Fish Dependency Ratio (FFDR) of 0.37, made possible by its innovative use of by-products and alternative raw materials. Nearly 70% of total feed volume now includes microalgae, further reducing pressure on marine ecosystems and enhancing feed sustainability.
In line with its mission to lead responsibly, the report also highlights BioMar’s achievements in the social dimension. The company reached 99.9% of its 2030 target to provide a living wage to all employees and introduced new policies supporting human rights, health, safety, and supply chain accountability.
The 2024 report not only documents accomplishments—it sets a clear vision for the future. BioMar is on track to reduce the total greenhouse gas footprint of its feeds by one-third by 2030 and aims for net-zero emissions across operations by 2045. Through this work, BioMar reinforces its dedication to creating high-performance aquafeeds that promote the health of fish, people, and the environment—proving that responsible nutrition is the foundation for a more sustainable and resilient future.
