We were commissioned by Soul Coffee to create their new range of Iced Coffee; featuring four caffeine infused flavours to be drank ice cold straight out of the fridge. Taking inspiration from the surf culture of Sri Lanka, we created the tagline ‘post-surf fuel’, envisioning thirsty surfers enjoying an icy cold morning caffeine hit after their first wave of the day. Each flavour features a custom illustration of a Sri Lankan surf scene commonly seen around the island, resulting in a surf-infused tropical escape on a base of dreamy, pastel colours.

We wanted the product to help Soul Coffee stand out on the shelves of some of the biggest retailers on the island, when stocked against a sea of black and mostly, plain glass bottles. There was also the challenge of including a huge amount of information on each label, as well as Sinhala and Tamil script on a relatively small surface area, so careful and meticulous planning of the label layout was required to successfully do so.

The final outcome has seen the bottle be stocked in a wide range of retailers, and also in the fridges of many hotels, hostels & surf cafes around the island’s coast. We also designed a four bottle holder, featuring the brand’s logo and hand drawn palm tree on the side in the form of a repeat print. This was available to customers who purchased all flavours, as well as being sent out to social media influencers and frequent customers to raise awareness of the new product launch.

We hope that those who purchase a bottle for a cold, caffeine hit, are transported to a tropical beach and envision the waves lapping against the shore.
