Emma Cook Concept for Bloom Instant Iced Tea

Emma Cook Concept for Bloom Instant Iced Tea

This is a speculative project into how an iced tea brand could be sustainable. Bloom Instant Iced Tea uses tea bags that diffuse instantly in cold water. The bag itself is compostable and the fruity ingredients are all sourced from local farmers. The box itself is made from recycled paper, that has been embedded with wildflowers. The consumer will be encouraged to plant the packaging once they are finished with it, and grow wildflowers at home in order to support the rapidly depleting biodiversity in the UK, and boost bee populations. This products is also much lighter than pre-mixed iced tea which will reduce carbon emissions in the products’ transportation, and will reduce the use of plastic bottles as people will be making their iced tea in reusable containers like mugs, glasses, flasks or reusable water bottles.

I decided to create the concept for this project when I learnt that the UK was likely to not reach the target to increase biodiversity by protecting species, curtailing the degradation of land and reducing agricultural pollution, in 14 out of 19 cases. This target was set in 2010, for 2020. I also learnt that the easiest way people can increase biodiversity in their own areas is by spreading wildflower seeds. Hence, Bloom Instant Iced Tea was born. Wildflowers are beautiful, and I think the experience of growing something pretty and colourful will boost mental health, educate people, especially children, and benefit the environment all at the same time. Plus the iced tea itself will be delicious and re-energising.
